E. 24 Glenn Racz on Tackling Hills, Running Fast and Building Grip Strength

Welcome to Episode 24 of the Obstacle Order.

In this Episode, Philip and Elijah sit down with Spartan Pro Glenn Racz.  Glenn is a an extremely accomplished obstacle racer.  To date In 2015 Spartan Races Glenn has two wins and has finished in the top 5 in all of his races.  Any race Glenn shows up for he has the potential to win.  The Obstacle Order is privileged to pick his brain on race strategies.

Before Spartan Racing Glenn was a road runner. From 2004 to 2013 he lowered his 5K time from 19 minutes to 14:57 as a recreational runner.  If you can’t do math, that is a sub 5 minute mile 3 times over!

When running road races no longer kept his attention Glenn moved on to compete on American Ninja Warrior. Check out his 2013 performance here: ANW

One drawback of ANW is it’s only once a year.  You are one and done. But through that experience Glenn caught the bug of obstacle racing and realized there is a lot more out there than running from point A to point B as fast a possible.  Soon after ANW Glen discovered Spartan Races.  There he could combine his love for running with his new love for tackling obstacles.

Beyond Glenn’s background, specifically in this episode you will learn the strategies he uses to get better at hills.  Glenn explains his new philosophy on strength training and why heavier is not always better when it comes to developing strength specific to Obstacle Racing. Also, Glenn breaks down the science of BeetElite and how he uses that to overcome his digestive issues with pre race meals.

Glenn offers his number one tip to any novice obstacle racer.  He also explains the technique he uses to train with people he is faster than.  This is a great episode packed with tons of information from a true Spartan Pro.

Fun fact: as a mechanical engineer Glenn helped build the arm of the rover that went to mars!

In this Episode, Philip and Elijah sit down with Matt Truscott again.  If you haven’t heard it yet, you may want to check out the first episode featuring Matt. Today’s episode focuses on the importance of implementing what mat calls “3D” movement into a training plan.

3D movement is moving through all planes of motion and changing height.  In this show learn how one can implement various 3D movements and how that will help an athlete create balance to their training, which may aid in injury prevention.

Matt also explains his new product and certification program: Project Resistance.

Project Resistance is all about breaking the standard paradigm of strength training in order to create a more well rounded resilient athlete.

This is a catch up Episode between Philip and Elijah.  Your hosts have focused on interviewing elite Spartan athletes and have not had the chance to connect and catch up recently. With Monterey on the Horizon they thought it would be a good time to catch the audience up with what has been going on in the world of Philip and Elijah.

They both share there struggles with finding the proper shoe. In this show Philip and Elijah share their troubles and successes with finding the right shoe for obstacle racing.  It can be hard to find the shoe with all the right qualities if you are trying to go fast and have a little support.  Many shoes were mentioned in this episode including: Soloman, Mizuno, Born 2 Run shoes, Under Armour, Merril Trail glove, Saucony and Vasque.
