Steve is the West Coast course setter for Spartan Race. He and his team are to blame for the sequencing and placement of obstacles as well as the course setting.

From the festival area to equipment management they take a close look at what goes into some of the decisions behind how a course is laid out. In this Episode, Elijah sits down with Spartan Pro Team member Rea Kolbl. Rea is one of the rare people that excel in OCR despite having no running background in high school or college. In just 2 years racing as an elite, Rea has 10 race wins and 2 tops fives in NBC spartan Races.
Rea is also one smart cookie. She is currently working on her masters in Materials Science and finishing up her undergrad in Astrophysics and Physics. Learn how she uses her grit and perseverance to overachieve in the realm of academics and OCR. You will be hard pressed to find a more qualified duo when it comes to the combination of academic proficiency and athletic prowess. Jessica O’Connell represented Canada in the 2016 olympic games in the 5000 meters and Faye Stenning is the Second best Spartan Racer in the world. Both also have at least a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology. Jessica earned her master’s in Exercise physiology for good measure.
The combination of book smarts and the ability to apply that knowledge in order to perform at the highest level is rare indeed. That is why the combined minds of Jessica and Faye will no doubt become one of the best resources in the world of OCR coaching.
